What A night?

On 28 March 2026, at the Santa Rosa County Auditorium, Citizens Moving Forward celebrated its third annual Black and Gold Ball and it was a delightful ball. As we prepared

for this year’s ball, we realized we are working on our tenth year of operation having gotten started in October 2016. Looking back and reminiscing on our start and accomplishments, we became aware that we did not make it here on our own.
In reflecting on the importance of opportunity and support, we are reminded of the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once observed:
“ It is all right to tell a man to lift himself by his own bootstraps, but it is cruel jest to say to a bootless man that he ought to lift himself by his own bootstraps.”
While CMF was not without resources, our experience affirms an enduring truth:
Meaningful accomplishments rarely occur in isolation. Even the most determined efforts are strengthened by the support, counsel, and generosity of others along the way.
That truth certainly applies to the progress of Citizens Moving Forward. Therefore, it was appropriate and our privilege on that evening to recognize four individuals whose contributions have been instrumental in enabling us to achieve a measure of success at this point in our journey.
Attorney Tony Henderson: Donated several computers, which enabled us to setup a computer lab and offer computer classes to seniors. Furthermore, for the first couple of years, he contributed financially monthly to help us in establishing a stable foundation.
Gary Mooneyham: From the very beginning, maintained the aging HVAC Units to afford us with a comfortable indoor climate. Additionally, he donated four replacement units when the existing units reached practically their end of life.

Dan Stewart: Provided legal guidance and services on pro bono basis to aid us in the
purchase and closing on the property.
Jayer Williamson: Recommended that we apply and assisted us in application process to secure two appropriations from the state to aid in the renovation of the interior of the main building.
The encouragement, leadership, and support of the men named above have played a significant role in helping CMF move from vision to reality. We extend our sincere appreciation for their belief in and commitment to our mission.

We were honored to have Ms. Linda Moorer (Sonshine) to serve as the Mistress of Order who orderly and enthusiastically moved us through the night and also kept us entertained. The climax of the night was our keynote speaker, Chief David Alexander, III who spoke from his heart words that both challenged and encouraged the board and volunteers of CMF and the entire audience.
The cuisine, catered by Ms. Thomasine Johnson, was exceptional and the music played by Tom Alexander was inspiring and

energizing, creating an atmosphere that ultimately brought out the dancers. Of course, I cannot end this post without mentioning Attorney Stewart’s, one of our honorees, presentation of a song he pinned specifically for CMF titled “Christ is My All, Y’all.” So, stay tuned, as we hope to have a group sing the song at our 2027 Black and Gold Ball.
